Aquaman is the number one movie at the box office this weekend. The movie is the first project from the DCEU to hit theaters since last year’s Justice League and fans have been happy to see Arthur Curry’s first standalone project in theaters. It took in $64.7 million this weekend, which is a little less than initially anticipated. However, the James Wan-directed superhero movie has already made $482.8 million globally, with a huge chunk coming from China, where the movie has been a huge success.

Mary Poppins Returns barely beat out Bumblebee for the number two spot this weekend. The two movies are also debuts and it was initially predicted that their race would be close, but the Mary Poppins sequel prevailed, earning $22.2 million. Bumblebee came in third for the weekend having brought in $21 million, making it the lowest opening for the Transformers franchise. With that being said, it is also the best reviewed movie of the franchise.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse fell from the top spot at the box office last weekend, taking the number four spot this weekend with $16.7 million, which is an over 50% decrease from its debut. It is one of the three animated films to make the top ten this weekend and is still doing good business. Clint Eastwood’s The Mule was able to hold strong at number five after bringing in $9.9 million. The movie has made $35.6 million since it debuted two weeks ago.

Illumination’s The Grinch fell from the number three position to number six this weekend and is still doing solid business for the holidays. The animated family movie earned $8.1 million this weekend, which brings its grand total to $422.5 million globally. Jennifer Lopez’s Second Act has been getting terrible reviews, but it managed to land the number seven spot after bringing in $6.5 million. The actress is currently being sued for posting an image of herself on social media without the photographer’s permission.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 fell from number four to number eight this weekend. The last of the animated movies in the top ten this weekend brought in $4.5 million and has made $307.5 million since its debut five weeks ago. Welcome to Marwen opened this weekend with a disappointing $2.3 million, while Mary Queen of Scots took the tenth spot after earning $2.2 million. Mortal Engines fell over 70% from its debut last weekend to number thirteen, having only brought in $1.7 million. The Peter Jackson movie is looking like it’s going to be a huge flop at the box office. However, the holiday box office numbers are expected to pickup between Christmas and the rest of the year.
