John Wick Vs. Hobbs & Shaw: Who Wins?

Posted 2019/11/0880

The suit wearing, gun-toting, pencil-stabbing hitman, John Wick, has emerged as one of the most badass action heroes of modern cinema. Elsewhere on the action hero scale are the hulking bruisers of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, currently teaming up to explode everything in sight in Hobbs & Shaw. Behind both is stuntman-turned-director David Leitch, weighing in on who would emerge victorious from the inevitable destruction that would occur should the lone hitman meet the explosive pair on the battlefield.

“Wow, that’s a tough question. I mean seeing as I’ve been part in creating both of them it’s hard to answer. I think it’d be a damn good fight, how about that?”

What an incredibly diplomatic answer. Somewhat frustrating, but diplomatic.

No doubt action fans everywhere would concur with the tactful director in his prediction that it would be a damn good fight. Throughout the John Wick trilogy so far, Wick has shown a penchant for all kinds of weapons, from knives to guns to bigger guns, and even demonstrated his ability to apply regular household items to a killing purpose.

From stabbing people in the ear with a pencil, to breaking a would-be assassins neck with a book, Wick is able to put anything in his capable hands and leave a dead person on the end of it. What about John Wick’s kill count? So far across three films he has killed a total of 299 people, many of whom resemble both Hobbs and Shaw.

On the other hand, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw have seen off their fair share of undesirables, killers and henchmen. The behemoth that is Luke Hobbs has been a highly skilled bounty hunting federal agent for years, whilst Deckard Shaw is a former British military officer turned mercenary who so far has taken out entire buildings full of people single-handed. He is also what you’d call a champagne problem. Separately they are forces to be reckoned with, and teamed-up they are near-invincible, like if an unstoppable force and an immovable object set aside their differences and decided to partner up. In their most recent outing they even manage to take down a super-powered Idris Elba, which is certainly no mean feat.

It is difficult to predict the outcome were the three to meet head-on, as all of them are highly adept at hand-to-hand combat, but it is impossible not to think that Wick would just end it quickly with a headshot each before heading home to feed his beloved dog.

Actually seeing this fight take place is any action film fan’s dream, and sadly will probably remain so, as it is doubtful anyone would attempt a big screen crossover. Still, it’s always fun to speculate, and like Leitch, we can all agree it would be a damn good fight. This news comes from Cinemablend.
