#ReleaseTheSnyderCut Photo Shows More Than Superman’s Mustache Was Erased

We’re one step closer to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut becoming a reality, yet just as far away. The Justice League reshoots will never live down the fact that Superman’s mustache had to be removed via CGI. Now, we get a fresh look at the Snyder Cut, thanks to director Zack Snyder, and it appears that the hair on Henry Cavill’s upper lip wasn’t the only thing erased in post-production.

Zack Snyder has joined his original cast over the past two months in sharing various images and art from the so-called Justice League Snyder Cut, rumored to be completed and running at 3 and a 1/2 hours. Just as long as Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. So who is he to call it ‘not cinema’? Today, we get a look at The Trinity as part of Trinity Tuesday. It shows us a never-before-seen look at Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill suited up as Superman and Gal Gadot ready for action in her Wonder Woman costume. What you may not realize at first glance are those goggles sitting on top of Ben Affleck’s cape and cowl.

Like Henry Cavill’s mustache, these goggles had to be digitally erased for various shots, as to match up with what Joss Whedon had completed during reshoots. Here, we see them sitting on the mask in all their glory. They were often spotted on Batman’s head prior to the release of the movie, and can still be spotted in some scenes of the movie itself.

Last week, it was noted by a DC insider that Warner Bros. has absolutely no desire to release The Snyder Cut, calling it a pipe dream. It does exist in some form, but it’s believed that VFX work would be too costly to consider, and that many inside the studio view it as a worthless endeavor. Zack Snyder on the other hand responded to this news by telling Justice League fans to never give up hope. It did, after all take a couple of decades for Warner Bros. to release Richard Donner’s original cut of Superman II.

Zack Snyder left Justice League following the suicide of his daughter. Joss Whedon came into complete the project. It is believed that he shot 80 pages of new footage, which equals an 80 minute movie. The movie as it stands clocks in at exactly two hours, so by this math, more than half the movie was reshot and repurposed.

The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign has been picking up quite a bit of steam over the past few months, and some fans believed, perhaps, that HBO Max, Warner Bros.’ upcoming streaming service, may debut this cut as an exclusive. Doesn’t look like that is happening. Money raised by the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, however, does go to suicide prevention. So even if we never see the infamous Snyder Cut, its not all in vein.

Until then, we’ll have to be content with images like this one, showing what could have been for this DC ensemble. This latest image showing us Batman’s costume before the CGI edits comes direct from Zack Snyder’s Vero account.
